Senryu – #indyref2

Without people’s will;
Independence cannot come
Soon enough for us.

Senryu – Politics

Government has failed
To provide; for the nation
Trusted politics.

Sonnet – #indyref2

Chaos; their downfall and their sordid shield,
this small government of one trick ponies.
Inexperienced, out of touch phonies;
who grasp a fiery sword too hot to wield

This cabinet lacks experts of the field;
all opportunists or Johnson’s cronies.
Waste of nation’s time on ceremonies;
another option most found unappealing

and while Corbyn’s loss may be Starmer’s gain
will this new party change, or stay the same.
Let’s hope they oppose in more than just name
and cast off their antisemitic shame.

If labour cannot show that they have healed
Then Independent Scotland’s fate is sealed.

Villanelle – A Forgotten Friendship

I think of the many times I have sought
your company; my desire before any other
I accept, it may seem that I forgot.

You and the joy which you begot,
a gift; giving me a chance to discover.
I think of the many times I have sought

something which to my life you brought
without ever being asked by another
I accept, it may seem that I forgot.

Now by confusion I have been caught;
the route I have taken I can’t uncover
I think of the many times I have sought

A friendship like yours, which can’t be bought;
and value unknown, until it was over.
I think of the many times I have sought
I accept, it may seem that I forgot.

Shape Poem – Learn

I
always
try to find
new challenges,
ways in which to grow
or the chance to explore.
Life begins anew each day;
a chance to live the life you want.
When possible, perhaps remember;
live each day like your life has just begun.
Impress yourself; before another
be bloody, bold and resolute.
Try to live by these lessons,
without faulting failure.
Find a strong network.
Learn from mistakes.
Ask questions.
Reflect.
Learn.

Limerick – Go To Bed

I want to go back to bed;
to the pillow where I rest my head.
You may think I’m a bore;
but I just want to snore…
or perhaps I’ll have breakfast instead?

Zanze: Green & Yellow

Green and yellow fields, well maintained
by animals contained within.
The produce of the field sustains;
the plight of man and beast akin.

Green and yellow fields; well
do their crops grow each year,
but for them trees are fell.
The way ahead seems clear.

Green and yellow;
colours of life,
mostly mellow.
Sickness and strife;

Green and
growing. Remain
the order of the land;
green and yellow fields well maintained.

Villanelle – Starlight

Love is like starlight.
It is unending and enduring;
a guide throughout the darkest night.

Shadow has no chance to fight
Love; a champion defending.
Love is like starlight;

because Love is like the colour white,
a canvas never ending.
A guide throughout the darkest night.

A future looking clear and bright;
the past beyond comprehension
because love is like starlight.

It is blinding and removes our sight
of the things we do not mention.
Yes, Love, is like starlight;
a guide throughout the darkest night.

Sonnet: Lambs

Lambs in fields seem to grow faster each year;
Growing to look like their mothers, before
Winter will come and soon we ignore
their youth, replaced by usefulness or fear.

Their lives belong to the highest bidder
who may have travelled from the farthest shore,
for a new stock to toil in daily chore,
purpose from purchase abundantly clear.

Yes, green and yellow fields are well maintained;
grains and fodder collected for winter,
not all animals purchased are sustained.
Instead the slaughter house is the winner.

But comes back Spring and the fields fill again;
this will be the way until farming ends.
