If that which I have learned is to be believed;
I am left shaken and full of sorrow
and long has it been since we were bereaved.

I think of all that we together achieved
in forgotten yesterdays; no more tomorrow
if that which I have learned is to be believed.

Long since our cords of life were weaved
or together our time we shared, or borrowed
and long has it been since we were bereaved.

And I am sure I am not the last who will grieve,
who will hear this hurt filled news and harrow,
if that which I have learned is to be believed.

Now you, only in memory, can be retrieved;
compared to your company this is shallow
and long has it been since we were bereaved.

My only wish, that I were being deceived,
yet I must accept your fate is hallow;
if that which I have learned is to be believed
then long has it been since we were bereaved.
